Specifically, the yenidje! Unfortunately, the versions I've tried ranged from "decent but unspectacular" to "horrible." Better, he used to say, to let the expert blenders blend and then find what you like rather than try and have a store, or you yourself, do the mixing. and they are just as good if not better. I always try new tobacco with completely dry pipe 3 or 4 days without being smoked, and then I dedicate that pipe to that tin for the duration of said tobacco. And when dried properly, leaves no dottle in the bowl. A pipe smokers nirvana. The mixture was overwhelmingly harsh and acrid really vile stuff. Cost about $4. The latakia did not hide, nor was it subtle. So I'm writing what I think I recall here. It's a "Turkish cigarette" (Oriental blend) which means there's nothing in it but Oriental tobacco. Once open the tobacco rests in a paper as is often customary with on top of that a thin round insert with nothing on it. The mystique surrounding this blend from years past is well deserved. Perhaps a Sobranie cocktail cigarette once every few months. Won't bite or get harsh. The Virginias offer some grass and hay, a little dark fruit, and a hint of citrus. My taste changed to a matured virgina, by 1966, especially in plug form and today is still my first choice. And long gone. You can see how it is a hard composition to blend, with ingredients often hard to obtain, and whose consistency over 130 years has been variable to say the least! This pipeweed is certainly an icon and one of the best oriental blends out there. After a few puffs, the tobacco flavors begin to meld & it just keeps getting better & better until the very end. I do not like to smoke this outdoors. Simply amazing stuff, and I mourn that it's almost gone. of spice and a mild sweetness. or related products to anyone under the age of 21. because that was the last of it. Its hard not to look at the whole ball of wax and not say that this was one of best blends ever made. Because it is with this tobacco as with wine. If it were, it would be in my regular rotation. After the bowl was done I just turned it upside down and fluffy gray ash came out leaving the bowl clean but to my surprise also leaving some evident drops of water which condensed during smoking but not to the point that intervention would be required.
